North Middlesex Hospital Maternity Unit

Sterling Way

London N18 1QX

The new £17.9 million maternity unit, part of a larger £80 million modernisation and expansion programme at the hospital, was procured under the Procure21+ framework with the principal supply chain partner Kier Construction, who commissioned the Portakabin Group to supply the UK’s largest modular building project to be built in the health sector. The decision to use the off-site solution reduced the build programme by seven months.

The new unit includes eight home-from-birth rooms, an 18 cot neonatal unit with three mother and baby rooms and extra capacity if necessary. A labour ward includes a delivery suite and two obstetrics operating theatres.

Phoenix Floorings’ Dan Brown said “With such a time critical project, communication and planning was the key element in our success, something we are extremely good at and of which I am naturally very proud. Delivering a project like this on time to a main contractor is a testament to our team.”
